FAQS

Are Tálōs Body Butters ok to use on your face?

Yes, our body butters are gentle on even the softest of skin. The butter is light and fluffy so it spreads easily. Rubbing the butter between your fingers before applying will quickly make it even softer.

A little does go along way. Start with a small pea-sized amount or less for use on your face.

What can I use Tálōs Body Butters for?

Tálōs Body Butter is a versatile, all-purpose moisturizer that can be used from face to feet.

It's great for nourishing dry skin and providing deep hydration, leaving the skin feeling soft and smooth.

It can be used as a natural alternative to synthetic moisturizers, body lotions, face creams, hand creams, and day or night creams. We recommend applying it as part of your daily skincare routine to maintain healthy, moisturized skin.

It can also help with nourishing dry skin, soothing sunburn, easing of eczema and rash like irritations and may help with the healing of scars and stretch marks.

Does Tálōs Body Butter smell beefy?

No. We filter our tallow to remove any smell. We then add our own custom blend of essential oils that compliment your skin and leave you smelling wonderful. Our butters are very lightly scented with organic essential oils so as to not trigger people with skin sensitivities.

My Tálōs Body Butter is hard some days and soft on others, is this normal?

Yes, Talos Body Butters will get slightly harder in cooler temperatures due to being a 100% natural product. We don’t use any stabilisers or nasties which means that it will get a bit firmer in the cooler months and a bit softer in the warmer months.

When your body butter is slightly hard you can easily rub it between your fingers and it will quickly soften again.

Can young children use Tálōs Body Butter?

Yes! Tálōs Body Butters are suitable for everyone over the age of 3. We recommend this age due to the softness and sensitivity of younger children’s skin. As with any new skincare product, we suggest testing a small amount on the skin first before full application.

How often can I use Tálōs Body Butters?

You can use Tálōs Body Butters as part of your daily skincare routine as often as you like. Many people use it once or twice a day depending on their skin type, climate, lifestyle, and what their skin is exposed to.

Our body butters are 100% natural and formulated to provide deep moisture and nourishment—a little goes a long way. Some may prefer using it twice daily, while others find once a day or every second day works best for their skin.

How long do Tálōs Body butters last for?

We recommend using the product within 6 months of opening and within 12 months of the handmade date on the bottom of the jar.

The shelf life of pure tallow is around 12-18 months. We recommend storing our products in a cool area out of direct sunlight with the lid on tight. It is important to keep the product dry as water content will shorten shelf life.

What's the difference between a tallow balm and a body butter?

This is mostly a matter of semantics. However, Tálōs Body Butters are whipped (infused with air during the production process) so they have a lighter, creamier texture than a conventional balm. In saying that a number of companies selling "tallow balms" do also whip them - and just call them a balm.

For all practical purposes balms and butters work in the same way. The main thing to be focused on is the quality of the ingredients. And that the product is neither overtreated (reducing its efficacy value) or not properly treated (making for a product that doesn't smell good - many localy made products do have that factor!)

The production formula for Tálōs Body Butter is a closely gaurded secret, but results in no beefy odour while being gentle enough to not impact the efficacy of the tallow.

Will Tálōs Body Butters work on eczema and acne?

We do not make any medical claim that our body butters will cure or treat eczema or acne. However, they are made with ingredients that are packed full of the fat soluble vitamins A, D, E and K.

Vitamins A and E are known for their general skin-nourishing properties, helping to maintain healthy, moisturized skin.

While we cannot guarantee specific results, we are committed to offering the highest quality product that will nourish your skin.

INGREDIENTS

Why Tallow?

Tallow has been used in skincare practices for centuries, including in Ancient Greece, the Roman Empire, and Ancient Egypt. We chose tallow as our star ingredient because it contains fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K, which are known to support healthy skin. Tallow is also naturally compatible with our skin’s composition, making it a nourishing option for those looking for a gentle moisturizer.

Why Olive oil?

Olive oil has been used as a skincare ingredient since ancient times, including in Ancient Greece. We chose organic olive oil for our body butter because of its ability to nourish and support the skin barrier while retaining moisture. Olive oil is rich in antioxidants and is known for its gentle nature, making it a suitable option for people with sensitive skin.

Why Manuka honey?

Manuka Honey holds very many beneficial properties for the skin.

As a natural humectant it draws moisture in to the skin, making it particularly hydrating, while being gentle on sensitive skin.

Its anti-bacterial qualities combat bacteria and clear the skin, while its anti-inflammatory properties can help to calm and soothe irritated or inflamed skin and reduce redness.

High in flavanoids, NZ’s most famous natural export is antioxidant rich,  which helps combat environmental stressors, neutralising free radicals that damage skin cells and preventing signs of premature aging.

It has also been demonstrated to promote the growth of collagen skin cells for a firm, radiant complexion.

Why Organic Essential oils?

We use essential oils over synthetic scents because they are derived directly from plants which may offer potential therapeutic benefits beyond just a scent.

Organic essential oils are also far less likely to cause skin irritations or allergic reactions compared to synthetic scents derived from chemicals in laboratories.
